old meats new

wednesday day two of traditional month, this was my night to realy start teaching it, so with the jedies we did kumata sparing practice,

the adult class was similar to the night befor focusing on yakazukie, after all the etiquite hade been shown, then at the end just like the kids i went over the ruels of kumata be for i got the adults doing it it also gave me the chance to hit afue of them witch is always fun.

Old Japan

this tuesday sour the start of traditional Karata month, it started in the morning at cit where all the instructors agreed the new ruls and etiquite for all the classes this month, and then we had alitle bit of a play,

classes that night sour my test my traditional teaching skills and for saying i had never done it before i managed to blag it quite well with the jedies,

when it came to the adults i asked craig to take the first class so i could observe how at treditional adult class gose as i had never seen one, so as usuale he mad me join in and do it as well, it was very formal but exstreemly hard work, good fun though

then to top every thing of i had to teach the kata class, and in troditional styal i did a line walking clas and fineshed or with some bunki

Seminar

Saturday gone Sour Damon Sansum Visit to take a seminar for us, befor hand though all the instructors met with damon to do a privat traning setion it was realy good fun, and have to say the guy hits like a train i think its the hardest ive ever been hit but i liked it in my eyes it was realistick and i like hitting hard, arter we had finished playing, the seminar began, we had just under 40 people turn up which i would class as a huge sucsess,

i even joind in the seminar as arter are setion i was buzzing, dont get me rong by the end of the day i was nakered and ready for a drink,

damen went over some realy good stuff and i think every one how joind in learnt some thing myself in poticular, i picked up a fue things i will be trying over the next fue months.

TIME TO BALANCE

this fridays squad training setion was all about balance and timing it was alot slower paced than normal but i got exalent feed back from every one telling me how much thay enjoyed learning this sort of thing, this is the second week in a row i have taken suad training and i enjoy taking it, as i get to do the sort of thin that i would do when i train my self , and this balance trick that i have been working on now for a fue weeks seemes to be paying off as i am picking people off right left and center when im only moving at 50%.

Tag Test

Tag week went as smooth as ever we seem to have the running down to a tee now, still it is not my faverit thing to teach being resnobly quite is against my better nature, and as i have mentioned be for i like the freeden of my own lesons sticking to a rutean is just some thing i find hard,

Back to the beginning

this weeks cit, was like going back to old japan, craig had us doing traditional karata, which will be teaching for the month of may, as much as i like learning new things, at the moment i seem to be set in my ways, and only wont to do points though, i think this must be my comfort zone and i just carnt bring my self to leave it. lol

Timming is every thing

thursday night i only teach the adults as one of my juniors dose all the kids classes, so when i got on the mats at about seven i was quite mellow and tyered but i soon got in to it and be fore long i was trainning with them, the classe was all about timming and knowing when to go, this class was slow and easy compaired to my normal standard but every one seemed to like the change of pace for my BBC points class i just expanded on what i had done in my first class,

it was alot for the guys to take on bord and not alot of them could grasp it but with more practice they will,

FUN FUN FUN

theres been alot of posotives this week, i've enrold alot of new students at stealth coalville, my other busines stealth scaffolding is going from strenth to strenth and more importantly i am moving well,

wednesday sour my normal back to back class day, all my classes were aimed around strenthening the hip flexer mucels to help keep the leg up, i thought this was a good plan and worked well fore all the classes, it was a taxing one that left thouse who put the effot in very sour,

my last class of the night was Points fighting and as always i put my kit on to join in was a good night of classes.

fighting frenzey

fighting is fun, my sparring cless tonight intaild fighting and lots of it i like to call it fitness fighting, keep going till you carnt breath then go some more, a real good class and yet agen i joind in and got my sweat on,

new note to self teach all adult classess with my kit on as i cant resist joining in when kitted up!!!!

Back to it

wednesday this week saw me back in action in the Points BBC class oviously i was teaching it but with my sparing kit on it makes me wont to join in and it was hevey on sweeps and fighting all in all a good class and a good work out.

i need to stop working

after only a month at my scaffolding job i have decided full time work is much to much hard work, even when its your company, lol

any way on to trainning or at least the lack of it, last saturday sour the stealth spring fight night whitch was a grate night well atended and well run, all the fights went smoothly,

it even sour yet another rematch between my self and ryan parry, once agen going in ryans faver but we always put on a good show and its always highly contested as we do like fighting each other,

then sour last weeks classes, which were tecknicaly baced focusing on countering a atacking kick with a sweep then follow up to make shaw, this was a really well receved class that every one enjoyed,

this week saur my self and craig do a swop so i tourt the first half the week, which i baced on a horible fitness rutean i used to use, lets just say thay were dropping like flyes, it wass good funn

as for my owen tranning i have been bitting and bobbing joining in where i can with classes and playing around with new stuff more than any thing.

Tag Test Night

last night sour tag tests for nearly all the students, which meant we were using the format the instructors had come up with in cit that morning,

all the classes were busy and it went really well, but i cant say i enjoyed teaching as i don't like reading of scrips and doing drills people wright for me i prefer my normal off on a tangent style of teaching, so i felt i was going through the motions more than teaching,,

after the tag tests there were a fue of the adults how were grading for there new belts, so i had to put my kit on and do some points with the Senior belts, which would normally put a smile on my face as i do love to fight, however i still felt a little lethargic and was not my usual self on the mats, i did score 4 or five good head kicks even only being at 50% so not a total loss

finding time to train

finding the time to train semes to be getting harder as my new scaffolding company is getting busyer, never the less i did manage to sneek a session in on tuesday night with steve going over our joint kata for this saturday, wich we now have almost sorted. i still don't like kata though!

Flying High

Yesterday was a good day, work was good out in the sun, then when i got to stealth at about 4 mike and rose were taking the kids classes for me witch ment i was not teaching till 6.45 so i managed to get loads done,

6.45 was on to the mats first came the usual torture for the Ladies only disco kickboxing class, which was not made essayer by me being in one of my hyperactive moods,

then came the adults where i was working on using fast different height kicking combos (S/K, Sweep, R/H) and i just veryed the kicks about, a really good class,

then came Points class, the hole class was themed on chambering but building on what they had just done in the first class, then came leg only sparing,

i joined in with most of all three classes tonight (i was defiantly running on DURACELL last night)

Lazy Kieran

This mornings training didn't start well, at 6.20 i went to pick up my nephew who was ment to be training with my self and Steve at stealth coalville, to work on our 3 man public display at the up and coming fight night in just over a week, however there was no life at all when i arrived at the smith residence, so i proceeded alone to meat Steve,

we went over Kankashow, the kata we will be preforming in tandem,

then unfortunately i had to leave just after seven to go to work,

looking back

i have been strugaling to train for the last fue weeks due to my other busines comitments, in poticular starting a new busines means i an working a 15 hour week once agen, lookaly for me the industory is quite phisical whitch is better than nothing, however i have took to joining in in nearly all me classes iven if for just part of each one, yesterday saw me take my normal wednesdays worth of classes (all of them, 7 in total) thay were mainly all fitnessed baced but by joining in for 10 mins a class i was staying nice and loose,

Takit And Brack it!!

This mornings squad training was hell jogging, sprinting, up, down, press up, sit up, it was all a bit a blur and that was just the warm up!

then it relay got hard, Craig had us doing close points hand drills but hitting them hard, which i must say is some thing i like, first i was with Ross one of the Junior instructors, i took every thing he had then it was my turn to unleash and with a standing KO on the first hit you could say i was taking no prisoners.

i must say Friday morning is my favorite part of the week, as i get to take of my instructor hat and put my student one back on, and that's when i can relay unleash on any one in my way,

power & controle Part 2 (o an a hole lot of sweating

last nights classes were a continuation on Wednesdays classes, still working on the ability to switch speed for power and back agen at the touch of a button, however the classes were all very very hard work it was a proper beating section with every one leaving the academy a fue pounds lighter than when they came in,

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Power & Controle

yesterday i took back to back classes as always on a Wednesday 9 in total, they were all themed alternating power and control, i used a variety of two kick combos one being as hard as you can, one being as fast and light as you can, i chucked in some new horrible exercises and wallop i had my self a really good nights worth of classes, i even joined in with the adults as i couldn't resist

cit agen

i arrived nice and Early this morning to get a head start on things, i then participated in CIT which was tort by Craig this today, we went over some close quarters hand drills that we plan to teach at the start of this week,

now its off for a full days work before coming back to classes tonight, with the launch of stealth scaffolding in Feb of this year my work lode seems to have tripled, however i do like being active all day and there's no need for wight training any more.

Just a Quickey

Nice light session this morning, i met Steve at stealth coalville this morning at 6.30am to train as normal, seeing as dozer had cry'ed off once agen.

we did some light kicking to warm up then, drilled this side kick, axe with a 4 meter projection that Steve wants to be able to do, for about half a hour , we started on bob then moved on to pads to really stretch are selves

CIT

this mornings CIT i went over with the Guys what me and Steve were practising yesterday as i described,

then a bit of a motivational speech a bout what i observed last week in there classes and how they could make them better which hopefully they took on bord and will try to act on this week.

Last nights classes

last night i swapped with Craig so i was on the mats all night,

4.15pm - ninjas - this was a really fun one to teach we did a 10 min warm up just running around, then we worked on snapping in to fighting stance thoroughing a jab the snapping back, and i finished of with some braking, (Paper) of course, but they really enjoyed it.

jedi's and adults - i worked on projecting in for 2 kicks, started off with knee, down knee, then knee, down kick, then knee, kick, then kick, kick and to finish side, axe trying to get them up to about 3 maters projection.

then for my two BBC classes it was Pinan Sandan to day for kata.

all in all a good night

Back on it!

this mornning i had a case of hevy head syndrome, by that i mean i strugeled toget it off the pillow, however i did make it to traininf and i feel better for it.

i met steave clews head instructor of stealth barwell at our coalville studio this morning at 6.35 (a bit late i no)

i went for a quick 1 mile run to warm up then joined Steve in the dojo, we went over a fue drills that i have planed to teach in class this week just to get a bit more comfortable with them,

1, defence to a side kick, as your opponent attacks hook over his leg then follow with a R/H to the chin must keep leg up (only works in a closed stance)

2, fake a stamping back fist, then as your opponent leans back with a side kick, project a axe over the top it will hit every time as there off balance.

to Finnish off Steve asked me to teach him how to do my side kick axe combo (which I'm now Nealy projecting four Maters) so we went over how to get so much distance.

then Steve asked me if he could film me doing it so he could admire me every day!!!

Where did last week go

last week seems to have disappeared with doing my first aid instructor qualification all week and then running the academy at night training seemed to get a bit sporadic last week, i remember doing a couple of mile and a half runs some light training in the mornings and then my normal five hour stints instructing on the mats both Wednesday and Thursday.

then Friday came after being at the studio all night Thursday for the refit, which was grading night trying to sort around about 100 people out was stress waiting to happen for me any way, the grading went well and the on came the presentation evening on Saturday which as equally as stressful trying to organise it. but it ran smoothly and every one seemed to enjoy it.

then came Sunday make over part two painting the reception and the dojo no small feet, but it got done,

this morning saw me teach CIT, i had the guys going over basic kicks as as a club i would say are kicking could be better and it will be so this month will see a lot of back to basics, on the kicking front.

tomorrow will see me back training at 6.30am sharp

Hurting dozer

this mornings CIT at the coalville academy, saw all 7 of the instructors arrive at 6.30, as Craig was delivering today it meant i could join in.

i as normal chose dozer as a partner mainly as i like hurting him, this mornings setion was all about partner stretching, so basically we stretched for 45 mins which really helped loosen me up as i have bin a little tight since Saturday,

as we were stretching we were going over safety issues and gender mix, arias that are being stretched etc.......

Back on the wagon

i was back on the training train today, 6.30 satart at coalville studio, on my own as dozer didn't show agen!

however i was not deturd, i started with a 1.5mile run on the track, then in the dojo for a light legsetion and a good stretch to losen up agen from sat,

after a boring day in a class room on a first aid instructor/aceser corse i also went for a quick 1.5mile run between clases too. where i picked up the pace and i started to feel good and there was plenty left in the tank,

Monday not much to report

still slightly hung over from sat in wales i didn't get back to training, however me and Craig did manage to get out leafleting for about a hour covering about 2 mile at a brisk pace dropping around 300 leaflets,

that was better than nothing, but i will be back training tomorrow morning at 6.30am with Dozer

Fight night

Saturday gone saw Team Stealth travel to Wales to take on the mighty ADMA, we departed from stealth coalville at about 2 pm, are first stop was in coalville to get surplus for the Trip (allot of beer) and although i was fighting i had to partake in just a couple of cheeky half's,

We arrived at the venue at about 6pm to be greeted By two old friends ADMA owner/chief instructor Rhidian Hains and my opponent for the evening Ryan Parry, after a bit of light banter we got things going, as normal at these events i ended up refereeing all night but it did mean the fights went smooth and fast, there was some good talent on show and every one in the crowd seamed to be enjoying the night

However when 9.30pm come things relay got going with the MAIN EVENT of the evening, Matt Smith (me) of team Stealth VS Ryan Parry of team ADMA, this is were the noise level in the room went up to rival the noise of a space shuttle take off, I'd like to say it was for me but i think the 100 or so welsh people may have bin shouting for Ryan, The 30 stealth supporters didn't do bad though

we guard the crowd up even more be for the first bell, with a little bit of show boating Ryan did a trick, then i did one and this went one for a will but in the end he had more tricks than me (lol)

when the fight started i was relay up for it and the first round went fast and was pretty even with only two points in it, the second round however went slightly to Ryan pulling away by another couple of points, and that's wen it all went wrong the crowd wanted an extra round and Craig as referee obliged, but at this point my tank was empty and i couldn't even tell you what happened in the last round but we were both still standing,

Although Ryan won I was pleased with how i fought scoring some good points and a good couple of axe's in particular, i can tell how much i have improved since last time we fort 2 years ago when i couldn't touch him, all is not lost the may be third time Lucky when ADMA come to us in four weeks four our fight night and i get a third re-match with Ryan.

so i have four weeks to get rid of some of the extra 20kg i carry over Ryan and who No's it might be a different story!!

all in all the night was grate and when i got to the bar at 9.45 it got better. lol

Easy mornning

this morning squad training session was quite a light on i want off with Kieran to drill some basic things for tomorrow nights fight night in wales, after we had done the basics and they were looking good, we moved on st some crowd pleasing stuff that will look good and entertain, i will be fighting Ryan Pary a old friend who is a cracking fighter, we both said it should be a crowd pleaser as it is the main event so lets get flashy!!

so all in all a nice light session with no running today as i need to be nice and loose for tomorrow!

Finnish with a flurish

after i tort my Thursday classes (Ladies only, Jedi BBC, Adult Martial arts & Adult BBC) which all focused on using momentum like i described in yesterday mornings entry (CIT) classes were a slower more teck based than yesterday but enjoyable none the less.

In the last class which was point, i joined in as normal, to night i was focusing on my projection, which is also improving, i scored quite a fue good attacking kicks, but i saved the best till last as in my last fight against Dozer, i landed the sweetest of axe kicks on his big fat head that made a sound that could of coursed a avalanche in Sweden!!!!

leflet drop

one thing that me and craig have decided to do more of is lefletin so we now set out to deliver 300 a day between us, only took a hour toady the wethear was nice so we were quite happy doing it

we were moving at a brisk pace and we covered about 1 mile agen

now i'm prepping for tonights classes!!

What mornnig is it today?

If I've not stated already I'm not a morning person,

i arrived at Stealth coalville at 6.30am as always to meat Steve Stealth Barwell's head instructor (also training for his second Dan) however Dozer was no where to be Sean, then agen you can't quite see McDonald's from the dojo!

We started with some slow blitzes on bob to get the blood punping, then moved on to each other I'd B/F Steve for five mins and he'd work on his defence then we'd swap it over, Steve was focusing on a fall away side kick and all though my B/F is still slow at the min (i put this down to being to heavy) he got me with a fue good shots. I however were still working with this GKD pack down, and not blowing my own trumpet i am now bloody proficient with it think i only took 1 hit all morning, (an Steve if fast) so when it comes to guys my own Wait it should be easy to use, how ever i think ill keep drilling it for a fue more weeks,

At 7 Steve had to leave for work, so i moved on to a little leg work on bob, just throwing double and triple kicks and i must say i was surprised how far and how fast i was moving, (there's still fight in this dog) not quite a gray hound yet but getting there.

to Finnish off i thought I'd treat my self to a quick 2 laps round the stealth track (1 mile)

I've defiantly sorted my 1 pack out the other 5 are on there way!!!!!!!

Today round 2 and 3

This afternoon saw a fast 300 leaflets delivered by me and Craig only took 30min as we were moving at quit a pace (covered about a mile) that's a fue more calories gone

Tonight's classes were really high energy, i used the fitness based class that i described in this mornings entry for all the classes (ninja's, Jedi's, Ladies only disco kickboxing and Adult beginners martial arts) worked really well every one was knackered, TOP RESULT!!!

Then the sparing class was just based around a line drill front man choosing one defence to work on and the line throwing blitz B/F, this class i couldn't help joining in my B/F was not the best tonight, how ever i am pleased how my pack (GKD) defence is coming on i seem to be collapsing every ones frame who try's to blitz me leaving me a easy shot!! we finished with 15 mins light sparing, didn't want any injury's as most of us are fighting in wales on Saturday night!

Motion of the ocian

Stealth coalville seen all the instructors arive at 6.30am sharp for CIT (as always) to day craig hah asked me to take the guy through class plans for the second half of the week

Class one - was fitness based with one person at each end one person in the middle running to one end that person dose 3 x whatever combo the 10 x whatever exercise, the middle man runs to the other end that person dose the same then they all change round. we various exercises and combo's

Class two - martial arts based, using momentum something as a big guy myself i find very useful as it dose not sap to much energy, three tequnikes that involved spinning the body in the same direction by 540 degree, Example, rear R/H, Spinning Hook, Rear leg front ground sweep, i went over 5 variation that the instructors could teach in class this week,

To Finnish off when every one had gone i went for a quick mile and half run, this is almost getting to be a habit!!

six pack hear i come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sneeky Time

the sefternoon involved a rather long walk around whitwick, delivering about 500 leaflets, not the most fun i've ever had but it was a nice brisk walk (about 3 Miles) and i no it will genarate leads for the academy,

i also snook a little mile and half jog in agen between classes!!!

I am a good by if i can keep this up there will be two six packs at home one in the fridge and one despalyed on the front of matt smith

bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets get up early for a change

this morning training setion sour me team up with steve clwes Stealth Barwells head instructor how is also training for his second dan at the same time as myself & Richard "Dozer" Clark also a instructor at barwell, we all met up at the Coalville Academy as it is closest at 6.30am to kick start the day,

We started off with a 1 mile run around the stealth test track to wake us up and get warm (it was minus 1)

Then we moved in to the gym to work some basics for 30mins, we got a line drill going just working back fist, just changing at the front every couple of mins, while the person at the front was working on hand counters,

i personally am favoring one that i adapted from the GQD Seminar i did last week tort by Koglan Wan, you basically step in to the B/F using your lead hand pack the attackers elbow right in to the belly completely collapsing there frame, leaving them no where to go, and leaving you with an easy high reverse to the head, I've bin drilling this for about a week now and i am getting quite good with it!! (it is a fat man tech as i call it as you make your opponent do all the work) that's probably why I'm good at it.

topped the morning off with 25 fast press ups!

What a good by i am!

as i dont teach on a monday after all the classes had gone in and i had finnished the never ending stream of paper work that is involved in runing a full time martial arts centre.

i decided to get a sneeky run in, just a quick one an half miles round the Stealth testting track, felt quite easy, but there was plenty left in the tank!!

Rise and shine

it all starts agen at stealth black belt academy coalville, another week another 6 straight 6am starts.

CIT - this morning was based around planning circuits and how to adapt them to work the body in different ways, then involved trying them out to see what works for classes

I did 30 moderate exercise mainly focusing on legs to get them kick started for the day

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Boot Camp

After the tourcher i endured yesterday morning, i felt it was only fair to pass on some of my pain to the adults how attended the Saturday morning fitness class, it really was back to boot camp and i was the Sargent major

one hour of basic horrible exercises and lots of running of course, put together with my usual flamboyant style and piss taking, every one enjoyed the session,

They may not like me in the morning though when they can't lift there legs to get out of bed. hehehe

I am cruel

Up and atum!!

Another day Friday. another 6.30am squad training session at Stealth Coalville.

This morning was exceptionally evil there were 10 of us and if you weren't fighting in the middle aria you were running round the edge of the dojo, (2mins fighting, 8mins running none stop for the hole session) safe to say after the 15mins i wasn't pulling anything, i didn't care who was standing in front of me they were going to get hit and going to get hit hard (take no prisoners) all in all a good training session,

PS. Craig your not a very nice person!!!

Now its off home for an easy day, i deserve it!!!

Classes i tourt tonight

Today i tourt Juinior Jedi's Black Belt clud, Adult Martial Arts and Black Belt Club Points Fighting,

Jedi's - Was aimed at teaching them to stand there ground and move in to a atack as a counter atack rather than backing off and giving up your ground.

Adult Martial Arts - In this class i was teaching how to use your body as a see-saw motion to evade attack then use your returning momentum to attack back, i started simple by getting them to do the motion then added diferent atacks, R/H Kick, Side Kick, 45* Axe and F/L Sweep / B/F, and of course my new press up of the month lots of.

Points Fighting - This was fittness sparing none stop for twenty minuits changing partner every 1min very hard work but grate fun i even had to join in myself couldent resist getting a sweat on and hitting people, finished off with a team fight off,

A good nights Classes!

Second Dan Brief

I've just been given my second dan brief by my brother Craig. over the next 10 months I will be training with different instructors around the country, learning new skills and recording them here for everyone to see. Then in December 2009 I will sit a formall testing at Stealth Black Belt Academy in Coalville. My grading panel will be made up of my brother Craig Smith, Mr Jason Charlesworth and Mr Darren Ellis.
This blogg will be used as evidence to show what I have trained, how I have trained, and when I have trained. Over the comming months it should pan out into a huge portfolio for everyone to look at.
Thank you for taking the time to read it and please add me to your watch list.

Cheers Matt
